GENERAL

Example subject line: PITCH – Why guard-force turnover is a security risk?

How we handle your article.

  1. You send a pitch or a draftA pitch can be short: your main point in three to five sentences, and why you are the right person to write it. A full draft is also welcome.
  2. We replyIf the idea fits, we agree the angle, the length and a date. If it does not fit, we tell you.Within 5 working days
  3. An editor reviews itWe check structure, length and safety. We polish the language. We do not rewrite your voice.About 1 to 2 weeks
  4. You approve the final versionYou see the edited text before anything goes out. Nothing is published without your sign-off.
  5. We publish and share itYour article goes live with your name and short bio, and goes out to our email subscribers.

Before you send a draft.

  • Keep it between 800 and 1,500 words.
  • Attach a Word file, or paste the text into the email.
  • Add a two- or three-line bio, written the way you want it shown.
  • Send work that has not been published or sent to another outlet.
  • Describe general patterns. Leave out details that could identify a real site, person or operation.
  • Stay neutral on politics.
Short on time? We can interview you and write the draft from that conversation. You review it, and it carries your name.

Common questions

What topics do you publish?

We publish in five areas:

  • Protective security and VIP protection.
  • Corporate and private security management.
  • Tourism and hospitality security.
  • Crisis and disaster management.
  • Security in schools and universities.

If your idea sits between two of these, send it anyway.

I have little time to write. Can you interview me instead?

Yes. We interview you, write the draft from that conversation, and send it to you for review. It is published under your name only after you approve it.

I am a serving officer. Can I write for you?

Yes. You are responsible for any clearance your organisation needs. We are glad to wait while your draft goes through that review.

Can I write under a pen name?

We publish under real names. In rare cases, where a writer's safety or career is at serious risk, we may agree to a pen name. The editor will still know who you are.

Do you pay contributors?

Not at this stage. Every article carries your name, rank or title, and a short bio.

Can I republish my article elsewhere?

Please ask us first. We usually agree, as long as you link back to the original on our site.

We do not share your email address or your draft with anyone outside our editorial team.
